In situ : Amakusa, Japan

Spending an evening in November watching the sunset in a traditional Japanese attire on a remote Kyushu island was unreal and familiar at the same time. It’s funny how quickly you get used to the exotic when you’re comfortable.
Shimoshima island, in the Amakusa prefecture, has a scenic rocky coast facing the West that makes sunset-watching a local delicacy. In our hotel, Gosoku no Kutsu, there was actually a special spot, with chairs lined up, to witness the show. Not a bad way to end the day!

In case you’re wondering where is Amakusa.
You always get yukatas in ryokans, but the ones at Gosoku no Kutsu were particularly impressive!
