The detail : Church of San Francesco d’Assisi al Fopponino, Milan, Italy

Milan is a great place if you like Italian modern architecture, especially Gio Ponti's. In addition to the well-known Pirelli tower, he also designed a series of Milanese churches in the late 60's. The avant garde façade of the one I'm showing you today is pierced with diamond shapes that let the sky appear. It's a futuristic rendition of these dramatic baroque façades that are in fact hiding a smaller building. In the original ones you have to stand on the side to see the trick while here the effect is much more surreal.
The Pirelli tower, built in 1958, helped built Ponti’s international reputation.
Remember that beautiful Milanese buillding?
