There's always an extra room to visit in those Sicilian churches. Sometimes for free, sometimes for a few euros, behind that door or after that rope you may find treasures or dusty relics, there's barely any way to know in advance! In that little gallery on the side of the imposing Duomo di Siracusa there are a few impressive bishop's robes on display, but the real curiosity is a vast collection of eye-shaped ex-votos. It turns out that Saint Lucy, the patron saint of the blind and those with eye-trouble, was actually born in Syracuse.
