The detail : Utagawa Kuniyoshi ukiyo-e, Paris

We're going to Japan in two months now, and seeing this picture I took this fall I remember how the idea of traveling there slowly but surely took shape. I think we might have spent one hour in this little specialized shop on the St Ouen flea market, going through almost every print. I knew about Hokusai and Hiroshige but discovered Kuniyoshi on that occasion. The fashion designer in me obviously could not resist the refinement of the patterns and draping displayed on the characters he drew. After much debate, we had to pick a favourite for our home and the one above was amongst the final contestants.

Ukiyo-e is the japanese word for woodblock print.

The shop‘s address : Market Paul Bert, street 6, shop 230, 96 rue des Rosiers

Gorgeous. If you spent an hour looking at these beautiful prints you guys are going to love slowly perusing the markets and tiny art shops all over Japan (especially in Kyoto). Enjoy your trip. I have no doubt you will love it!

@Erin Thanks! I’m afraid this trip to Japan is going to bankrupt me!! Do you have any particular shop in mind in Kyoto?
