The place : Chiesa di San Tommaso al Pantheon, Syracuse, Sicily

Only a few minutes away from the open-air white museum of Ortygia, you have to give this tower-shaped church a few points for boldness. Its solemn silhouette in the middle of the otherwise rather straightforward art deco new town of Syracuse will surely make you look twice, or at least circle it a couple times, like we did.
It was build in 1919 and is the main commemorative building to the soldiers that perished during WW1.
Remember Ortygia?
