I find it hard to romanticize the rain here in Paris, except during those summer showers and storms, when the leafy trees in front of my windows suddenly gain a tropical allure and the air fills with a heavy smell of wet vegetation. Then I remember Kerala, Sri Lanka and Vietnam.
In Sri Lanka, it seemed like watching rain drops falling into ponds could become a hobby in itself. The suddenly troubled waters, the unfazed fish, the cheerful frogs and the glistening water lilies made for a slow yet spellbinding show.
