There would be much to say about how delicate even the most trivial things can get in Asia. This was undeniably true on the islands of Lantau and Peng Chau, a short ferry ride away from Hong Kong. Here, the pace is obviously slower and it seems to leaves more space for poetry, more time to improvise on your walls and more liberty to pick colourful tiles. The bright tones get a bit pastel under the tropical sun, but the glorious red and the gold remain miraculously intact.

On pourrait parler longtemps de la délicatesse qui vient s’immiscer dans les choses plus triviales en Asie. C’était plus que jamais vrai sur les îles de Lantau et de Peng Chau, qu’on rejoint en ferry depuis Hong Kong. Là-bas, le rythme est forcément plus lent, et cela semble laisser plus d’espace à la poésie, plus de temps pour improviser sur ses murs et plus de liberté pour choisir collectionner les céramiques. Les couleurs vives prennent un tour pastel sous le soleil tropical, mais le rouge lumineux et l’or restent miraculeusement intacts.
