Panorama : Western Desert, Egypt

Seeing the desert is quite a metaphysical experience.
It’s the kind of landscape that does more than flirting with abstraction. Even the sand’s texture is adding to this surreal feeling, making the dunes look creamy and smooth from a distance. Sometimes rocks and flat-top mounts emerge, only to be covered again by the shifting sands one day or another.
I found it unbelievably quiet and calming.

The 700,000 km2 of the Western Desert represents two thirds of Egypt’s territory.
Our guide told us that the first kilometers of the desert are the most beautiful and varied, once you’re deep inside it becomes just a monotonous sand plain.
