As we made our way from Nuwara Eliya down to Kandy we watched the never-ending cycle of the hills being draped in mist, gently showered by rain and bathed by furtive ray of sunlight. It was like a spectacular weather film shown again and again, until the plains finally replaced the plantations and we arrived at destination.

It takes four hours to go from Nuwara Eliya to Kandy. Nuwara Eliya is up in the hill country, in the center of Sri Lanka. The British used to go there to escape the heat and even built mansions in a very “English countryside” style in the area. Remember the pictures of the train station?
