In situ : Tomo No Ura, Japan

“I want to see the Inland Sea”, I told my travel agent.
Ah, we Westerners and our ridiculous seaside fantasies! In Japan the relationship with the sea obviously ain’t that romantic, so the least we can say is that they don’t live by the water.

So, he told me: “if you really want to go by the sea, you can head for Tomo No Ura”

This turned out to be a place of many delights (one of them being the island of Sensui Jima), but the view, the cool breeze and the spring sun might have made it my favorite place in Japan yet.

______________

Getting there sound complicated but isn’t, since traveling in Japan is the smoothest thing there is. First take the train to Fukuyama, then take the bus to Tomo No Ura at the station (ask around to find it, they’ll be happy to help!) and stop at the terminus, on the harbor.
