The view : Tomo No Ura, Japan

The Japanese can be so good at reconciling functional and graceful, it's almost annoying. I'd like to think that the harmony between the soft curve of the embankment and the landscape is only due to chance, but let's not kid ourselves, this was probably thought that way. No doubt they must have felt they owed it to the beauty of the Inland Sea!

Riverside or on the seashore, water protections are very common in Japan, and despite the fact that they’re massive concrete structures they seem to manage to always make something interesting out of them.
