I've never been to Eastern Europe, which makes the occasional encounter with an Orthodox church a mysterious and fascinating one. Pushing the door of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox church in Vienna instantly conjures fantasies of the east and the Balkans. The deep golds, the multitude of red carpets, the chandeliers looking like censers and of course that velvety penumbra.
