One of the biggest surprises I got when going to Japan was how much of it was echoing things I had seen or read, I didn't expect it to be so familiar. My generation in France has grown up with a lot of American references, but I had underestimated the amount of Japanese culture I had been exposed to. I remember being amazed in a so-it-was-true way the first time I saw real-life service stairs and smoking manholes in New York. Little did I know that, on my first night in Osaka, I would set foot on the Dotonbori bridge and see in reality what I had thought to be 80's science fiction.
I actually prefer the part North of the Dotonbori bridge, which is less tourist, and well less…tacky!
See more of Osaka, ’cause it’s awesome.
