The overall museum experience in Milan is great: beautiful venues, carefully selected works, surprising themes and not a crowd in sight.
The Novecento Museum is a fine example of that. It’s right on the Piazza del Duomo (one of the only places in Milan where you’ll see flocks of tourists), yet it doesn’t cater to the mainstream at all, with a very exigent and inspiring collection of Italian Modern Art among which the Futurist and Kinetic art rooms were my favorites. The building itself is rather recent (it opened in 2010) and puts an interesting contemporary twist on a neo-classical look reminiscent of the 30’s.
