The apartment we rented in Tremezzo happened to be the building right next to the mythic Grand Hotel Tremezzo. This imposing art nouveau hotel was very popular amongst the high society in the beginning of the 20th century, making it a real Lake Como landmark. Passing by the entrance every day ended up building our curiosity, did it retain some of its former magic? We finally went there for drinks one evening, and as the more modern details faded in the obscurity, you could in facct almost imagine Greta Garbo passing in the hall or Paul Morand smoking a cigarette on one of the balconies...
