Le Louvre is old, and therefore quite labyrinthine, so don’t expect your visit to be a smooth, seamless ride through art history. Instead you’ll probably get lost, end up circling the place trying to find a section that seems to elude you and find yourself in rooms you hadn’t planned to visit. For better…or boring, that’s part of the deal. Another detail is that a lot of that happens underground, or at least far from any natural light. This is why it is so good to finally emerged from these under lit galleries and walk along the windows of that glorious first floor: the sun, the gold details everywhere, the antiques, the views…now that’s Paris!
