After the pink and golden hues of Seville, the white town of Vejer de la Frontera was quite a surprise. The first reference that comes to mind is Greece’s white villages, except here it’s not the sea but the Andalusian countryside at your feet and there’s a fortified look that’s very much Spanish. The town is perched on a hill which means that almost every morning you get to see the clouds in the valley because you’re actually above them. One of the other perks of staying in Vejer is the restaurant scene, the influx of wealthy British tourists have given birth to a ridiculous amount of good eateries for such a small town.
_____________ The beaches are only a few kilometers away, and so is Cadix. My two favourite restaurants were both on the Plaza de España : El Jardin del Califa (out of this world Moroccan) and Trafalgar (best beef carpaccio I’ve eaten). You can easily get there by bus from Seville, but know that the bus stops at the bottom of the town so you’d better have light luggage (or strong arms).
